Monday Listicles!

Oh it’s been quite a few busy weeks in our household with camp and summer activities I’m just now starting to get back to writing. I love the hustle and joy summer brings, but I must remember my goal of working on writing each week to build a live memorial book of memories for our family of fun, experiences, growth and love! So this week’s fun: Monday Listicle: Ten Things You Buy Every Week

1.  Silk Chocolate Almond Milk

2. Red and Green Apples

3. Grapes

4. Bananas

5. Chicken

6. Coffee Creamer

7. Applesauce

8. Salad Fixins

9. Atkin’s Bars

10. Gas (almost every week! lol!)

Monday Listicles In Memoriam

Happy late Father’s Day…. hope everyone enjoyed the day. We unplugged and spent time playing games, cooking and hanging out. We were trying to enjoy a bit of nice weather as it looks like this week holds rain. We are wondering if summer will come soon? Seems like mid-June it should be warmer. 🙂  Well, it’s time for Monday Listicles.

Monday Listicles is a great way to prompt your writing each week; it gets you warmed up and ready to go. There are a ton of great ladies posting over on Stasha’s site, Jump over, take a peak and join in!

This week we are talking about great shows that got canceled too soon.

1. Sex and the City, HBO

2. Seinfeld

3. Fraiser

4. Friends

5. Darma & Greg (this was my favorite show!!)

6. The West Wing

7. Fringe

8. Rules of Engagement

9. My So Called Life

10. Freaks and Geeks

Enjoy your Monday!!

Monday Listicle on a Typical Tuesday

You all know me right? Perpetually late, always apologizing for a packed schedule! So this week is more of the same. The closer the summer gets the more I have to find time to do all my favorite things….one of those is Monday Listicles! Stasha over at The good life…. has a great tradition, I’m just a little late!

So now that apologies are out-of-the-way, this weeks list is 10 beauty products you could not live without. You may laugh, but I always say some of these I would take to a deserted island over food and water! 🙂

10.Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner…. my hair is so thick, every other conditioner I’ve tried weighs it down. This stuff is amazing. Plus, in the end you rinse with cold water which is a bonus for not only your hair but your skin as well!

9.Hope in a Jar SPF 25…amazing lotion, not oily, never fails and it keeps me from getting burned!

8. Water….lots of water everyday… I’ve learned the hard way this is the only thing that keeps my skin clear and me feeling well. I’m still a tea and caffeine junkie, but the water is my other choice and it offsets all that. 🙂

7. I would never, and oh yes I do mean n.e.v.e.r. leave home without my Burt’s Bees. I have regular and tinted, all kinds of flavors and choices and I’m telling you hands down this is the best lip balm ever. I do not wear makeup, other than 4 things (eyeliner, mascara, powder and Burt’s Bee’s). Once you try this you’ll throw your chap stick, lip stick, lip tint or lip gloss out the car window! Even the hubs swears by it…. who thought a dude would like a beauty product?!

6.Avon Glimmersticks… in all kinds of different colors, this is the only one that doesn’t irritate my contacts….good stuff!

5. Mary Kay Spot Acne Solution….enough said!

4. Proactive Cleansing Bar….great for summer skin stress!

3/2. Lots of outdoor time and exercise….. we are an outdoor type of family, we are happiest with our bare feet in the grass or running around at a beach somewhere.

1. Meditation/Yoga….without it I’d have more gray hair than I already do and since I don’t color my hair, well that would be another to add to the list. I’ve learned over the last couple months that peace of mind through meditation brings space into your life and joy, which allows you to be beautiful inside and let your light shine out. And yoga is a process, I’m such a novice, but it brings me great peace and energy, which is such a wonderful thing (even if I have no clue what I’m doing!).

What are your favorite beauty things?

10 Chapters in My Crazy, Bumpy, Messy, Endering and Incredible Life

Well this is a rather on point Listicle this week. Perfect for getting back to writing. I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching the last two years, I think part of it is because I am approaching that mile marker of 40. When I was a kid I had set all these goals for 40, so that after 40 I could start new goals. So here’s this week’s listicle, 10 Chapters In My Life…

1.) Grandma’s Girl.  This would certainly sum up from birth to 13 when my Gram passed away. She was my rock, and quite an amazing, proper, formal and in her own way funny lady. (Emphasis on the word lady.)

2.) Traveling the Beltway. Thinking of the years of 13 through the beginning semesters of my freshman year at Ole Miss. They were fraught with family tension, parental alcoholism, struggles for independence and trying to understand trust and friendship.

3.) An Uncomfortable Personal Paradigm. Struggling to separate, defy and overcome the last 8 years, while facing my own addiction demons.

4.) Dating Dos and Don’ts. (Self Explanatory – whew, I can pick ’em!! LMAO!!)

5.) Meeting Zen. This would be my early to mid 20s when I met not only my Best Friend, who is now my sister-in-law, but at the time my soon to be partner (who 12 years later became my husband). These two people not only changed my life, but accepted me for who I am, not who they wanted me to be. Acceptance is the first step in healing. (I have the tattoo to prove it. :))

6.). Doing It Backwards: Pregnancy, Marriage and In Laws . All I have to say on this chapter is we’ve all been there, done that and have our own embarrassing, funny, sad and eye-opening stories to share!

7.) My Loves. All about our beautiful twin girls and how they taught me the meaning of true and untainted love.

8.) A Kaleidoscope of Self. A view through personal history to understand who I am and where I stand in the world. Learning gratitude and love all over again.

9.) Consenting. Laughing out loud, enjoying life and taking in the light and the dark of life equally.

10.) On The Corner of 39 and 40.  What’s next?

Whew! That was fun, you know how they have the saying “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming — WOW– What a Ride!” That’s me, I just keep changing the ride, Can’t wait to see what 40 has to hold. 🙂

What are your 10 Chapters?

100th Post: Monday Listicles – Ten Proudest Moments

Well, how appropriate that my 100th post would be a Monday Listicles. Such a great one too, although it’s difficult to wade through all the great memories and figure out which ones rank higher than the others.

Ten Proudest Moments

1.) Giving Birth to the Twizlets – I was scared to death to be at a hospital, but I made it and here they are 7.3 years latter with love, fun and their own splash of attitude.

2.) Day I Married The Hubs – We were together for 13 years and the birth of the twizlets before we got married. Neither of us was really huge on the concept of marriage, we were happy living together and being successful. My Dad and Step Mom did the same as well, until, like us they had the realization that in WA your partner, no matter how long you’ve been together, has no say in what happens to you in an emergency. Obviously today that’s changed. 🙂

3.) Our “pup” Bunker – she goes by so many names Bunk, Bunkie, Bunk the Dog –  The hubs named her after a Sand Bunker in Golf….she is a nervous bundle of overly excited and unconditional love. I couldn’t imagine any part of the last 11 years without her.

4.) Being a Mom – If you read my post Becoming a Mom Changed Me you’d know it’s not been an easy road, but I wouldn’t change one second of it.

5.) Completing three 5Ks in 2011 – they were rough, but I set the goal and I did it. I hope to do more this year or next we will see.

6.) My Cooking – I have rarely if ever followed a recipe, it’s annoying to me to be restricted by rules. Usually it works out, sometimes not so much! It always provides either a good meal or a good laugh!!

7.) HomeSchooling – I never thought I could achieve this, but I’m doing it with the support of the Hubs. Accepting my own ability to derive inspiration from my kids, and being fearless has helped.

8.) This Blog – which to be honest I never thought would amount to a hill of beans. Hopefully it brings people some joy and laughter, or at least something or someone they can relate to.

9.) Our home – it’s comfy, safe and cozy – old yes, cramped yes, but it’s our first home, where we got married and where we had our babies.

10.) My Graduate Degree – I can safely say to myself that I achieved my goal. Next?

Monday Listicles Ten Fantastic Smells

Well, I consider writing Monday Listicles a little like a religion now. While I’ve been absent for a few weeks dealing with some personal things. This weeks list has gotten me back into it. I will post a couple catch up ones as well, because they are too fun not to!

This week, Ten Fantastic Smells

1.) The Ocean – the smell of the sea is so amazing to me, it’s refreshing.

2.) Calvin Klein’s Obsession – this is my hubs cologne, it’s smokey, spicy and just slightly sweet.

3.) Fresh Baked Bread – this always gets everyone coming over to my house.

4.) Flowers from a Garden

5.) Suntan lotion

6.) French Lavender

7.) Vanilla

8.) Sandalwood

9.) Coffee beans

10.) The smell right before it rains.

What was I thinking buying THAT?!

I started cracking up when I was thinking back about this weeks Listicles. I have always been sucked in by those As Seen On TV ads…. I’m that marketers favorite person. See the thing is they make it seem so easy, so I’m thinking it really must be that easy and make my life that much better…. yeah no not so much.

So in tribute to horrible purchase and Monday Listicles, here are some of the 10 Dumbest Purchases I’ve ever made

1. The Thigh Master – Seriously just because Suzanne Summer looks amazing, doesn’t mean the damn thing really works….it’s a little weird-looking if you think about it.

2.) Wonder Hangers – they are not wonderful, they do create space in your closet, but only if everything you own is a size 0 pant made of linen, or a t-shirt that has mostly see through material. Hang a sweater or a pair of jeans and the thing breaks.

3.) Ab Lounger  – yeah NOT! More like the laundry lounger

4.) Epilday – oh my fricking cheese balls! I think that thing must have been a torcher device is some mid evil kingdom at some point. Thanks anyway, I’ll stick to wax.

5.) Shoe organizer from Ikea, yeah it doesn’t really help to have to cram your dress shoes into a space taking up valuable real estate for your clothes. ugh!

6.) Store bought bread. I know it sounds silly, but I can make 10 loaves of bread each 1.5 lbs, fresh for 1/2 the cost a loaf of good bread costs at the bread store. The time it takes to set it up is less than 10 minutes, it cooks in 2.5 hours, and if you set it up overnight or first thing in the AM you have it when you need it. Bonus is it has 5 ingredients, and nothing weird or that you can’t pronounce in it.

7.) Playpen – I have heard parents used them regularly and we thought we would. We took it a couple of places, used it as a time out space, but it never really got good use and we resold it, it was practically brand new.

8.) Emotional toy purchases. I am a sucker for my kids, and in the past if they would ask for something usually if it was a reasonable price and they seemed truly interested in it I would buy it for them. Major error, I have given away so many of those toys its silly. Now their favorite thing is library books!

9.) Here’s one from my hubs: White Ceiling Paint. In the past we always bought the one that was tinted purple, until we painted our bedroom ceiling. For some reason we didn’t get the one that was tinted purple (and dried white) and we must have painted and repainted the ceiling ten times. ugh!

10.) A pair of super cute pants from Old Navy that were 1 size too small. This is an open invitation to myself to say, get real. You are the size you are and while those pants are cute – you should have waited to buy them when you were that size. Clothes don’t motivate me, so I should have known better.

We’ve all had some crazy purchases in our life. The one thing mine have in common is most of them are emotional purchases, which is never a good way to buy things. Now I take the time to ask is that really something I need to have, or the kids need to have. If the answer is maybe, then more than likely it’s no….

Secret Happiness

I was cracking up last week reading everybody’s Oh No You Didn’t Valentine’s Day Gifts.  Some of them were so funny or foreign to me; I couldn’t believe people would actually give them as gifts, but it happens!

This week is fun too. Yesterday, 2/17 was Random Act of Kindness Day (#RAOK). This week’s Listicles kind of follows that same theme: 10 tiny (or secret) things that bring you joy. It took me awhile to narrow my list down, as I realized – selfishly – there are quite a few small things that bring me joy!

1.) E n K’s uninhibited, gut busting laughter; E is so serious all the time that when she laughs a big belly laugh it is so heart warming.

2.) K’s singing – even though she does it every second of the day, and sometimes I pray for quiet – it brings me joy to know that she is so uninhibited in her love of music.

3.) When the perfect song comes on the radio, singing in my car (while hopefully no one is watching because I can’t carry a tune!).

4.) Waking up to warmth and sunshine.

5.) All the laundry being done, and the house being cleaned.

6.) My hubs making the bed for no random reason.

7.) Cards, letters or phone calls just because.

8.) Doing a #RAOK

9.) Shopping for gifts for other people. I love giving gifts – Christmas is THE best holiday EVER – for selfish reasons I get joy out of watching people open presents I’ve given them 🙂

10.) Cooking or baking something delicious brings me great joy and peace. I think because I refuse to follow a recipe I’m always surprised when it actually works out (most of the time!).

“If you surrender completely to the moment as they pass, you live more richly those moments.” ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh

What brings you joy?

Whatever you do – DON’T DO THAT?!

Well this Monday Listicles keeps getting more fun each week. I chuckled when I read this weeks topic of “Oh no you didn’t” Valentine’s gifts. However, let’s be honest, it’s a tad odd to have one singular day out of the year to tell someone you love them. If you have to put a bunch of effort out on one day, maybe you should reevaluate your relationship. It should be fun and random acts of love all year long, no matter how silly, serious, tiny or grand – have some fun.

So here’s a few that may make any woman shake her head a little and say “um.. ok..”

1.) Kitchen Utensils (awkward….)

2.) Condoms or a sex basket (seriously?!)

3.)  A picture of yourself in a frame, stating your awesomeness.

4.) A gift given to you by another person (re gifting is ok, but it doesn’t show much thought)

5.) Appliances

6.) An extremely expensive gift (trying a little too hard)

7.) Gifts that “help” with weight loss (ugh!)

8.) Roses – does she even like them?

9.) Lingerie in the WRONG size (you better KNOW what your buying – nothing says I love you like assuming your partner is one size and they are not…..)

10.) Live animals (unless you’ve been with someone for a really long time, this is a major no-no)

Somethings you can do? Listen and pay attention to what they love to do. Love music, have an Ipod – Itunes. Love cooking, have a great kitchen – how about a gift card to Sur la table? Don’t assume everyone loves roses, because alot of us don’t. Does she love fresh cut flowers – stop by Pike’s Place and pick up some fresh from the farm bouquets. Love food – find a really great restaurant, or better yet – cook, yes, I said cook.  Passionate about the environment – find a local cause to donate to in her name. Write love notes and put them in her lunch, or a post it on her steering wheel. Put a single flower on her purse or briefcase before she heads out the door. Call and leave her a sweet voicemail.

Whatever you do, it doesn’t have to be epic, it just has to show you remembered. It doesn’t have to cost a penny. Men think women are complicated creatures, but in fact we are simple. Just remember and acknowledge. Don’t repeat the same behavior, change it up a little.

Happy V-day, good luck men! Some of you are gonna need it. ❤

Monday Listicles: Is that In My Bag?

It should be a good week this week, the handsome husband turns 41 on Friday and the following week is Valentine’s Day. February is one big love in at our house. The Super Bowl was interesting, and I’m sure people will be discussing the commercials for weeks to come. Well done, Donnie D. and team on the most talked about Ad of the night.

This week for Listicles we are talking about what is in our handbag. When initially looking at this topic I thought my purse is so tiny I don’t know if I have ten things.  When the twins were smaller I carried around a mammoth sized handbag. Then as they got older I thought I would carry one around because it seemed the stylish thing to do. Never one to follow trends (I stick with my khakis or jeans and a tshirt all the time!) I decided smaller was better and gave me two free hands to hold little hands.

Here’s what’s in my bag:

Hand Sanitizer (which actually belongs to E, but she “loaned” it to us with flu season)

Coin Purse

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm (which if leaving for a deserted island I would NEVER leave home without!)

Coupon organizer

Random Pencil Eraser

Broken Pen

Skull Candy Ear buds

Business cards from my favorite Thirty One Rep.

Next week should be fun; a list of 10 OH NO YOU DIDN’T Gifts – just in time for Valentine’s Day – hopefully the husbands will be reading. Have a wonderful week!
